Cooking for Cash

Did you realize that if you love to cook, there are thousands of contests out there just waiting for your next great recipe?  And that you can win anything from an apron to a million dollars?!  But maybe you don’t know how to find these amazing contests, or understand the rules to enter.  Well, I am here to tell you!
Many years ago, the only way to know about cooking contests was either in the Sunday paper advertisement and coupon sections, magazines, or entry forms found in bags of flour or printed on food product boxes.  Although they can still be found in these forms, now there are easier ways.  My favorite is a website called Cooking Contest Central.  It costs $25 per year to join, and is worth every penny!  All of the current contests are listed with links to every contest imaginable, and also includes contests for kids and professionals.  You will find tips on how to enter from those who have won contests, photos from contests, and a lively recipe forum where members can chat about contests or just everyday life.  As someone who has been entering contests since the 70’s, I can assure you that you will love being a member of Cooking Contest Central or “CCC” as it is known to the contest world.
Over the years, there have also been many books written on the subject of cooking contests.  The two books above are from 80’s, but still offer some valuable hints and take a peek into the exciting world of competitive cooking.  If you google “cooking contests” or “recipe contests” you will find all kinds of information to get you started.  I can tell you that my life has been enriched by cooking contests, not only because of some amazing prizes and memories, but I have made lifelong friends with people I have met at contests.  It’s just fun all the way around in so many ways, and I have much, much more to say on the subject, so watch for future blogs on some of the contests I have participated in, and how it also influenced my own daughters in their lives.
Tie on those apron strings and get cooking.  You may one day find yourself a million dollar winner!

I can vouch for every word said. I am a charter member of CCC.

Most of us prepare food for our families, might as well get paid for it.

Hi Carole! I’m a charter member, too, and you are so right! Why not prepare a contest entry for your family and it does double duty? Plus you get feedback on the entry. It’s all good!
