How about a Sunday Ham for a Crowd?

You will love the aroma of this ham baking!  It’s sweet, full of herbs and spices, and basted in beer.

Cajun Beer-Basted Smoked Ham

1 smoked ham (about 10-12 pounds)
5 Bay leaves
1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1 cinnamon stick (about 3 inches)
1 large onion studded with 3 cloves
Whole cloves
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup dry mustard
1/4 cup honey
1 clove garlic, minced
1 cup plus 2 Tablespoons beer

1.  Heat ham, bay leaves, thyme, cinnamon stick, and onion in water to cover in large stockpot to boiling; reduce heat.  Simmer, covered, until ham is tender, 3 to 3-1/2 hours.  Cool ham in broth to room temperature.
2.  Heat oven to 350 degrees.  Remove ham from pot; discard cooking liquid.  Remove skin from ham; trim fat, leaving a 1/4-inch layer.  Score fat; stud with whole cloves.  Place ham, fat side up, in large roasting pan.  Mix sugar, mustard, honey, garlic, and 2 Tablespoons of the beer in small bowl; spread mixture over ham.  Bake, basting with remaining 1 cup of beer, every 15 minutes, until ham is golden, about 1 hour.  Makes 10-12 servings.

Never tried baking a ham,but I really should rethink this. Miss seeing the big hams in the supermarkets.

Thanks, Mitinita! My cellar is overflowing with even more books now. I think it needs a make-over!
