So Just What Do the Rich and Famous Eat?

On New Year’s Eve, many people love to dress up, go to a fancy party or restaurant, and live high on the hog for one special night.  But what if you are one of the “rich and famous” and can indulge like this anytime.  What exactly is the lifestyle of the rich and famous, and what I want to know is, what do they eat?
Many of you may remember Robin Leach’s very 1980’s television show, “The Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.”  With this cookbook, not only will you know what the celebrities eat, but you will be able to make the dishes yourself.  Robin takes us on a culinary tour through the entertaining styles of fifty-five rich and famous, taking you into their homes,  to dinners on private yachts, or to the world’s most renowned restaurants and hotels.
Let’s start with the wedding reception of a very rich-and-famous who married a not-so-rich-and-famous:  The wedding of Elizabeth Taylor and Larry Fortensky.  At what other wedding would you find the bride escorted by her son on one arm and Michael Jackson on the other arm.  How many receptions include guests such as Nancy Reagan, Valentino, Diane von Furstenberg, and Eva Gabor, to name a few.  The wedding feast included smoked salmon, lobster salad on artichokes, fettuccine with seafood, roast chicken with a morel sauce, and a five-tiered chocolate mousse wedding cake.
Once a year, when Hollywood invades the South of France for the Cannes Film Festival, it becomes seven of the most glamorous days imaginable.  Celebrities and movie stars fill the hotels and have a grand time, indulging in coveted invitations to the best food and wine in the world.  The invitations cannot be sent out until four days before the festival because no one knows exactly who will be there.  The invitations must all be hand delivered to the hotels.  If you are one of the very famous, you would be dining on a terrine of fois gras, medallions of beef,  John Dory fillets and langoustines, and celeriac slices with artichokes.
The book is one indulgence after another with hundreds of celebrity photos, and also beautiful food photographs and great recipes.  But there was one that caught my attention, simply because this particular family oozes of celebrity, money, and an unbelievable lifestyle that some people seem to be obsessed with on a daily basis.  They were all very young then, but I think you will recognize the Kardashian family.  Good grief, they are everywhere…
Oh, yeah?  If they are so rich, how come they are wearing jeans and have bare feet?!

Hi Debbie! I saw this Lifestyles of The Rich and Famous book just yesterday. We have a Hastings book store going out of business, and the Used books are 40% off. Unfortunately the cover had been cut, and also had stamp marks.

The celebrity books are my favorites. I have Killy Wells and Holly Hobbie, but yesterday found some newer ones. Entertaining with the Sopranos, and also one called “Star Palate, Celebrity Cookbook for a cure.” Even though it’s not vintage (2004) This has to be one of the best celebrity books I’ve seen! Not to mention it was for a cure. I hope you will get a chance to review it, and I was also curious, what is your favorite Celebrity cookbook in your collection?

Hi Lanie! My basement is in the process of a make-over, and I have an area where I keep celebrity-type cookbooks, but it’s been temporarily moved. From what I remember, I like the Paul Newman cookbooks, and most of the ones from country singers because they always have great Southern recipes! I hope you found some good cookbooks at the sale.
