New Dishes for the New Year

I am not sure why, but I haven’t replaced my everyday dishes for a very long time.  They are scratched, over-sized, too heavy, and definitely outdated in every way. Even beautiful food doesn’t look good on them.  Unbeknownst to me, my husband and girls went on a mission a couple days before Christmas to find a new and modern set.  They ran around all day, even fighting last-minute  holiday traffic into Chicago in search of the perfect dishes.

We  love a brand of Finnish-made products called Iittala.  The company was founded originally as a glassworks in 1881, and over time has expanded to tableware and cookware.  Their key philosophy is to design products of “progressive elegance and timeless design.” This line called “Sarjaton” fits the bill perfectly.  I love how Finnish products all have the feel of nature in some form.  The design here is little lines that look like tree branches.  After finding the dishes, the girls found a table runner that matches the tableware.

I am looking forward to gracing these lovely dishes with lots of recipe ideas for the New Year.  However, now I need new flatware to match the new look.  Let’s see if I can talk my husband into buying me an early birthday gift…

I collect Ittala glass birds–and also have some kitchen ware from them–bottle opener, salt and pepper grinders. Love their design and feel in your hands.

You said it perfectly, Barb; the products have the lovely designs in addition to the “feel” factor!

Lovely gift! You and your family will enjoy using them for years; so think of the matching flatware as part of the needed ‘family enjoyment investment’! 🙂

I knew you would like Finn dishes, Kim! They are even more lovely in person.
