Saturday’s Recipe: Herbed Cream Cheese

Here is an easy and less expensive version of that delectable cream cheese spread in the little tubs.  It is an easy make-ahead treat, great served on crackers, spread on bagels, or with fresh cut-up vegetables as a dip.  Serve it for a party tonight!

Cream Cheese Spread with Herbs

8 ounce package block-style cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup sour cream
1 clove garlic, mashed to a paste
3 Tablespoons chopped fresh dill
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried marjoram
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground white pepper

1.  In a mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese and butter until light.
2.  Stir in the remaining ingredients and combine well.
3.  Transfer to a serving bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and chill overnight.  Let cheese soften for 30 minutes before serving.  Makes about 2 cups.
