Support National Independent Bookstore Day!

We live in a world of Tweets, Facebook, and every form of social media, which can have their place in society, but nothing can ever take the place of a bookstore and holding an actual book, not an electronic device.  Bookstores, and especially the small independent ones are living, breathing entities like no other.  They are places of social gathering, discussions, quiet and/or lively, and comfort.

My love of books started very early in life simply by sitting on my grandma’s lap while she read Mother Goose.  My great-aunt was a librarian in a very small town in Iowa.  I can still smell those musty old books.  Books can take one places, not real of course, but in the imagination.  And what is better than that?  I developed my love of cooking from my grandmother, mother, and great-aunt, but I also learned so much from cookbooks.  Not just cooking itself, but the history of food and the culture of each country’s cuisine.  Needless to say, I love all independent bookstores and especially independent cookbook stores.  My goal is still to visit every independent cookbook store in the country, then tackle the world.  Here are the links to the cookbook stores I have been lucky enough to visit.  I hope you can visit and support them.  Tomorrow, Saturday, April 29th, celebrate National Independent Bookstore Day. Go out and buy a few. Or more. Your world will be better for it!
