Most of you reading this are already aware of the devastating flood that washed away The Culinary Cellar. But I know that many of my readers are not on social media and are unaware of what happened, so this is for you. I will have a future blog with many more photos and more explanation, but for now I just wanted you to know that I am sorry to be ignoring your emails wondering where I am. Now you will know why.
Almost all of the thousands of cookbooks are gone. Only a handful are left and we are attempting to dry them out. There is so much more to explain and tell you, but I am afraid I am simply too worn out to go into all the details now. I’ll come back as soon as I can. But know this – This Culinary Cellar may be gone, but another will take its place. We already have new plans. I can’t wait to tell you about those too.
Hoping clean-up is coming along well ! So much you had/have to do quickly because time is of the essence.
Thanks, Barb. The clean-up crews are here yet again doing a great job. It’s not over by a long shot, but going well and steadily. Thank you again for taking some of the books to help dry out. I appreciate it more than I can say.
I keep hoping to get a glimpse of William’s book among the debris….
Lisa, I never stopped looking for Will’s book. I’m heartbroken that it is gone. It’s one of the books I will miss the most.
It has been heart breaking to see your posts/photos on social media of all those cookbooks, recipe cards, and magazines covered by water and mud, and YET, so encouraging to see little glimpses of your treasured survivors. Wish I could fly over to help with the clean up but sending lots of love and prayers.
Thank you so much, Kim. I can feel the love and prayers coming from you across the country.
I’m still in shock and so sad about what’s been lost. While the first Culinary Cellar can never be replaced, I’m glad there’s going to be a new Culinary Cellar. Sending hugs to you and Bill and Kristina.
Thanks, Madonna. I have no idea how long it will take to make the new Culinary Cellar, but I would love if you could come and see it when it’s done.
I will. I promise.
They look well marinated. It happened to Mom in Elmhurst three times… Good luck with your labors.
Cliff, I like well-marinated rather than soaked in mud water.
Oh no! I’m so sorry to see this. Devestatiing… (I was hoping you were in Paris.)
Thanks, Denise. No Paris. The Cellar will be re-built, book by book.
