Authentic Finnish Rye Bread for a Healthier New Year

If you are searching for a way to eat healthier in the New Year, take a look at this.  My daughter Kara discovered this amazing bread while she was living in New York City, and it can be delivered to your door.  It is Artisan Finnish Ruis Rye Bread, 100% organic whole grain, 15% fiber,  no cholesterol or trans fats, and no preservatives.  Rye contains four times more soluble fiber than white bread and is also high in antioxidants.  It’s completely wheat free and high in iron.  The secret of the Ruis bread lies in its sourdough starter, or “Juuri” as the Finns call it. 
We order the 4 packets of 24 rounds, 6 per packet, every month.  If you don’t use it all up, it freezes well.  Each bread cuts in half and is naturally chewy.  It is definitely not a fluffy white bread!  I can’t begin to tell you how much we love it.  My girls like to eat it the Finnish way, spread with softened cream cheese and topped with lingonberry jam.  First  they microwave a round of bread for about 10-15 seconds just to make it easier to slice in half, then toast it and spread with the cream cheese and jam.  It is excellent as an individual pizza crust – cut in half and place your favorite pizza ingredients on bread and broil or bake.  It is not like any rye bread you have ever tasted.
