Here is our favorite family recipe for a warm, comforting apple crisp. Serve it with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, if desired.
EASY APPLE CRISP
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a shallow baking dish. Fill it up about 2/3 full with your favorite baking apples, which have been peeled, cored, and sliced. Sprinkle the apples with a mixture of 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup oatmeal (old-fashioned rolled oats – not quick-cooking) and 1/2 cup all-purpose flour. Using a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in 1/2 cup cold butter until mixture is crumbly. Scatter evenly over top of apples. Bake for about 1 hour or until apples are tender and the crumb topping is golden and crispy.
