Hi everyone! I am still without a scanner so no cookbooks again today. BUT – do I ever have some news! Tomorrow is my daughter Kristina’s birthday, and we are celebrating at Grant Achatz’s “Next” restaurant!!!!!!! For those who might not know, Grant Achatz is considered one of the world’s greatest chefs. Next is his newest restaurant to open in Chicago. Click on here to read a review and see what we will be enjoying for Kristina’s birthday dinner. The concept of the restaurant is to offer a new menu and atmosphere every few months. Next debuted with a Paris menu, and our dinner will be “Tour of Thailand.” One cannot make the usual kind of reservations at Next; tickets are purchased ahead of time just as tickets are purchased for the theatre. When Next opened, Kristina and I got ourselves on the waiting list with over 20,000 other people, thinking we would not be able to ever dine at Next in our lifetime. But we got lucky. On Next’s facebook page, sometimes people who have bought tickets cannot go at the last minute and they sell them. Like I said, we just got lucky to have clicked on the page at the exact right time. Tickets are gone in minutes. I can’t wait to report back to you about our meal.
To add to all this excitement, I just received a box and a big envelope from Lois, one of my wonderful readers. Lois read one of my blogs last year about my favorite magazine from the ’70’s, “Sphere.” I am attempting to find every back issue, and sweet Lois is helping me in this quest. Today I received over 40 Sphere magazines from Lois! Needless to say, I am going to put my feet up and start going through the recipes and articles.
