The Soul of Seattle

Why have I never been to Seattle?  I hear it’s one of the most wonderful places to live, work, and visit.  Plus I have relatives and friends who live there, so I should have no excuses.  My daughters recently spent a fun weekend in Seattle, and both said they could easily move  there.  After their Seattle weekend, they moved onto Alaska, but that’s another blog for this week.

However,  the girls brought me something back from Seattle – The Pike Place Market Cookbook!  They simply fell in love with the  Market.  I asked them what was their favorite thing about the market, and they both heaved a big sigh, and said – “Everything!  We miss it!”  They said it has a good vibe about it, with great food, flowers, and nice people.  It’s just one big  feast for the senses.

The cookbook has an interesting history of the market, when to visit, and a produce availability chart of what items to buy during peak season.  Many items can be mail ordered, so there are several pages of information on products.  But the star of the book is the recipes.  Everything from barbecue, to breads, desserts, soups, salads, vegetarian items, and of course, seafood.  The girls enjoyed the “fish-tossing,” which is a popular event, and has been seen on many cooking shows.  You will love this cookbook!  I can’t say enough good things about it.

No trip to Seattle would be complete without visiting the Space Needle.  Here is Kara up at the top.  The trip was also not complete without visiting the original Starbucks, where Kristina is standing enjoying a cup.

The girls are coffee fanatics – can you tell?!

I forgot to mention another gift the girls brought back to me – this darling Christmas tree ornament.

One of my New Year’s resolutions will be to visit Seattle this year.  I have a feeling I might just fall in love with it, too.
