Cookie-baking makes me happy. It makes me even happier to listen to happy music while baking.
How many times can I say happy? Hopefully enough, even for a few hours, to not think about the awfulness of 2020. Too much sadness and pain for so many. Cooking became a way to keep busy this year with a lot of banana bread, sourdough bread, and other comfort foods.
There was an article in the Chicago Tribune this morning about the ten happiest songs ever. That got me thinking about which songs I love to listen to while baking and cooking. Sometimes the ones I love make me move around the kitchen or sing along, or it brings back happy memories
Here are some off the top of my head, in no special order. There are hundreds more I could name, but these are the ones that popped up today:
-Happy Together, by the Turtles
-Wouldn’t it be Nice, by The Beach Boys
`Uptown Funk, by Bruno Mars
-Good Morning Starshine, by Oliver
`Bohemian Rhapsody, by Queen
-Chain of Fools, by Aretha Franklin
-Hey Jude, by the Beatles
-I Heard it Through the Grapevine, by Marvin Gaye
-God Only Knows, by the Beach Boys
-Ain’t no Mountain High Enough, by The Temptations
-Glad All Over, by The Dave Clark Five
-Build Me Up Buttercup, by Foundations
-Bette Davis Eyes, by Kim Carnes
-Good Vibrations, by The Beach Boys
-All You Need is Love, by the Beatles
-Hot Stuff, by Donna Summer (actually anything Donna Summer makes me want to dance)
-And there has to be a Christmas song, right? I have always loved Winter Wonderland by just about anyone, but I love the Darlene Love version
Okay, I need to stop here or I will go on for pages.
Let’s all hope and pray this global nightmare will end sometime in the new year. In the meantime, even through one happy song, forget about it and dance. And bake cookies.
What happy songs would you listen to while baking?
